Yanks ink Johnson, Damon return unlikely

NEW YORK (AP)—Nick Johnson(notes) is returning to the Yankees, a move that likelywill end Johnny Damon’s(notes) time in New York after four seasons.
A person familiar with the negotiations says Johnson has reached apreliminary agreement on a $5.5 million, one-year contract. The person spoke oncondition of anonymity because the agreement is not yet complete.
Johnson must pass a physical for the agreement to be finalized.
