White Sox extend winning streak to 7

DETROIT (AP)—A.J. Pierzynski(notes) hit a go-ahead single in the 10th inning andfinished with three RBIs on Monday, and the Chicago White Sox beat the DetroitTigers 5-4 for their seventh straight win.

Chris Sale(notes) (1-1) earned his first major league victory, finishing with 2 2-3innings of scoreless relief. Jose Valverde(notes) (2-4) took the loss.

Don Kelly(notes) homered and drove in three runs for Detroit.

Manny Ramirez(notes) led off the 10th with a single and went to second when RyanRaburn(notes) stumbled and booted the ball in left. Alejandro De Aza(notes) ran for Ramirez,and pinch hitter Alex Rios(notes) hit a single one out later to send De Aza to third.Pierzynski followed with a looper into short left field to bring in De Aza andgive the White Sox the lead.

Alexei Ramirez’s(notes) two-out single in the eighth had tied the game at 4 for theWhite Sox.

Detroit starter Max Scherzer(notes) was replaced by Phil Coke(notes) after Andruw Jones’(notes)one-out single in the eighth. Coke got Pierzynski to fly out to the warningtrack in right and was replaced by Ryan Perry(notes). Brent Lillibridge(notes), running forJones, stole second and Ramirez sent a liner into left-center to tie the game.

The Tigers’ Brandon Inge(notes) hit a drive down the left-field line and into thestands with two out and one on in the eighth that was originally called a homerun. The call was overruled when replay clearly showed the ball was foul.

Detroit took a 2-0 lead when the first three batters got hits, but Chicagotied it in the second on Pierzynski’s bases-loaded single.

The White Sox went ahead 3-2 in the fourth on Pierre’s two out, run-scoringsingle. Chicago nearly added another run, but Tigers right fielder BrennanBoesch(notes) threw Mark Kotsay(notes) out at the plate as he tried to score from second onOmar Vizquel’s(notes) single.

Miguel Cabrera(notes) led off with a single and Kelly drove Edwin Jackson’s(notes) nextpitch into the right-field stands for his sixth home run, giving Detroit a 4-3lead.

Scherzer allowed four runs on nine hits in 7 1-3 innings, walking two andstriking out six.
