Rangers’ Lee gets cortisone shot in back

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—Texas Rangers ace Cliff Lee(notes) has returned to the team afterflying to Dallas to get a cortisone shot in his ailing back.

Lee joined the team in Minnesota on Friday as the Rangers prepared open aseries against the Twins. Lee says his back has been bothering him for a fewweeks and that has contributed to his poor performance in recent starts.

The lefty is 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA in his last 23 innings pitched. He isscheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday to see how his back respondedto the shot.

Lee says his back is still sore, but he’s not sure if that is from the shotitself or not.

Manager Ron Washington says the team will decide if Lee will make his nextscheduled start on Tuesday after the bullpen session.
