Phils’ Happ out after line drive to knee

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Phillies reliever J.A. Happ(notes) was knocked out of Game 2 oftheir division series against Colorado after he was struck in the left leg by aline drive in the seventh inning.
Happ faced only one batter in Thursday’s game. Rockies pinch-hitter SethSmith(notes) hit a hard shot straight off Happ’s leg for an infield single. ThePhillies trainer immediately came rushing out and Happ left the game for ScottEyre(notes).
Happ sustained a lower left leg contusion. X-rays were negative.
Happ went 12-4 for the Phillies this year and made 23 starts. He relievedJoe Blanton(notes), another member of Philadelphia’s rotation who was used in relief.
Happ and Blanton are both candidates to start Game 3 on Saturday atColorado.
