Nats’ Morgan suspended 8 games for brawl

NEW YORK (AP)—Washington Nationals outfielder Nyjer Morgan(notes) has received aneight-game suspension stemming his part in a brawl during a game against theFlorida Marlins.

Major League Baseball handed out punishments Friday to six players, bothmanagers and a coach after reviewing Wednesday night’s game.

For the Marlins, pitcher Chris Volstad(notes) received a six-game suspension.Pitcher Alex Sanabia(notes) is suspended for five games, first baseman Gaby Sanchez(notes) forthree, and manager Edwin Rodriguez for one game. Pitcher Jose Veras(notes) received afine.

Nationals pitcher Doug Slaten(notes) gets a three-game suspension. Manager JimRiggleman is suspended for two games, and third base coach Pat Listach for threegames.
