Marlins, Rangers working on Cantu trade

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)—People familiar with the situation say the Florida Marlinsare working to finalize a trade that would send third baseman Jorge Cantu(notes) to theTexas Rangers.
Cantu was pulled from Florida’s game at San Francisco on Thursday in thebottom of the eighth inning, though neither club made a formal announcement. TheMarlins reportedly are to receive prospects in the swap.
Cantu was prepared to be traded and said in recent days he is prepared toswitch from third base back to his former spot at first, a position of need forthe AL West-leading Rangers.
Texas acquired pitcher Cliff Lee(notes) from the Seattle Mariners earlier thismonth.
