Lincecum wins second straight Cy Young

NEW YORK (AP)—Giants ace Tim Lincecum(notes) has won the NL Cy Young Award, becomingthe first repeat winner in the major leagues since Randy Johnson(notes) was voted theprize four straight times from 1999-2002.

Lincecum led the NL with 261 strikeouts and tied for the league lead withfour complete games and two shutouts.

Only 10 points separated the top three in one of the closest ballots in theaward’s history.

Lincecum received 11 first-place votes, 12 seconds and nine thirds for 100points in balloting released Thursday by the Baseball Writers’ Association ofAmerica. Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter(notes) was next with 94 points and teammate AdamWainwright(notes) finished third with 90 despite getting the most first-place voteswith 12.
