LHP Lopez, Pirates agree to 1-year deal

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Left-hander Javier Lopez(notes) agreed Friday to a $775,000, one-yearcontract with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 32-year-old was 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA in 38 games last season at Triple-APawtucket after going 0-2 with a 9.26 ERA for Boston from the start of the yearthrough May 9.
He is 11-7 with four saves and a 4.62 ERA over seven seasons in a majorleague career that began with Colorado and also included a stint with Arizona.
“Javier has proven to be a capable major league reliever who has theability to attack both left- and right-handed hitters,” Huntington said. “Hewill provide a solid option for manager John Russell in 2010.”
Lopez can earn an additional $550,000 in performance bonuses based on gamesfrom 35 to 70.
