Also Tuesday, the Red Sox said injured shortstop Marco Scutaro(notes) has beencleared to resume baseball activities. Pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka(notes) went for asecond opinion on his injured right elbow.
Jenks has been on the disabled list since May 2 with a right biceps strain.He has pitched in 11 games in Boston this year, going 1-2 with a 9.35 ERA and 10strikeouts.

Uggla, who signed a five-year, $62 million contract after the Bravesacquired him in a winter trade with Florida, has just four hits in his last 47at-bats—dropping his season batting average to .178.
Gonzalez replaced Uggla with Brooks Conrad(notes), who will play second base andhit eighth.
Uggla is coming off a career season with the Marlins, batting .287 with 33homers and 105 RBIs.

Mets 1B Davis out indefinitely

NEW YORK (AP)—Mets first baseman Ike Davis(notes) still hasn’t healed from a bonebruise on his left ankle and will wear a protective boot on his injured foot forthe next three weeks. He is out indefinitely.
Sidelined since May 11, Davis has been slow to recover following a collisionwith teammate David Wright(notes) on a popup in Colorado. General manager SandyAlderson says Davis’ sprained ankle has healed, but the bone bruise remains aproblem.

Davis was re-examined Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NewYork and doctors decided to put him in a walking boot to take pressure off hisinjury. He will not run or field grounders for three weeks and will be limitedto hitting and throwing during that time.

LOS ANGELES (AP)—Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt has paid hismajor league bills—for now.
Despite baseball officials who believed he didn’t have enough money to coverthe team’s end-of-the-month payroll, the embattled McCourt was able to coverDodgers-related expenses Tuesday, said a person familiar with the situation whorequested anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly.

If McCourt wasn’t able to meet payroll—a question that lingers for theremainder of the season—Major League Baseball would have taken control andpaid the team’s bills.
Based on an opening-day payroll of $103.8 million, the Dodgers’ payroll forits major league roster in the second half of May was about $8.25 million. Thefigure includes 16 days’ salary, but not any signing bonus payments that happento fall due.
ESPN first reported that McCourt was able to make the payroll.
The Los Angeles Times, citing anonymous sources, reported last week thatMcCourt needed roughly $9.8 million to meet Tuesday’s payroll. His financialwoes will increase in June because the Dodgers owe Manny Ramirez(notes) more than $6million in deferred compensation, the paper said.
McCourt took a $30 million loan from Fox, the Dodgers’ television partner,prior to Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig’s decision to appoint amonitor, former Texas Rangers President Tom Schieffer, to oversee the team’sdaily operations and to examine its records.
The ability to make payroll gives McCourt more time to reach a settlementwith his ex-wife and former team CEO Jamie McCourt. The McCourts are embroiledin a nasty divorce where she recently asked Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon toorder the sale of the team.
Gordon has ruled that a postnuptial marital agreement signed by the formercouple, which gave Frank McCourt sole ownership of the Dodgers, was invalid andcleared the way for Jamie McCourt to seek half the team under California’scommunity property law.
Settlement talks are set to resume June 8.
McCourt has urged Selig to approve a 17-year contract with Fox that could beworth more than $3 billion, which would include a front-loaded payment of about$300 million.

Sandoval may start rehab assignment soon

ST. LOUIS (AP)—The San Francisco Giants got an encouraging sign from PabloSandoval(notes), who took early batting practice and could be close to a rehabassignment.
Manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Sandoval swung away right-handed andhad pitches flipped to him batting left-handed, getting about 75 swings in alland driving the ball. Sandoval is on the mend from right wrist surgery.

Sandoval is scheduled to take batting practice from both sides on Wednesdayand could start a rehab stint that would give him 20 at-bats or so this weekend.
Slumping Aubrey Huff(notes), batting .219 with four homers, was not in Tuesdaynight’s lineup against St. Louis. Bochy said Huff might be trying too hard tocompensate for injuries to Sandoval and Buster Posey(notes), and could get two daysoff.

Marlins’ Morrison a hit on Twitter

MIAMI (AP)—Logan Morrison(notes) says at first he thought Twitter was lame,although he uses a more colorful adjective because he’s a 23-year-old ballplayerwho’s a fan of Dave Chappelle, and he talks like one.
He also tweets like one, to the amusement of thousands and the dismay of histeam’s top executive.
Morrison gradually became hooked on Twitter and now has more than 26,000followers. That total’s impressive considering he’s less than halfway throughhis first full season in the major leagues and plays for the Florida Marlins, ateam unaccustomed to attention.

But the left fielder known as LoMo may lead the league in Web wisecracks.Few athletes are wittier on Twitter.
“It’s amazing how many people take you seriously,” he says. “I don’t takeit seriously at all.”
That’s what worries team president David Samson. The Marlins monitor tweetsby all of their employees, and Samson says he has warned Morrison that hisR-rated material could carry negative repercussions.
“I’m not a dinosaur,” Samson says. “But I’m not thrilled. It’s very scaryto me. I’ve told Logan, `People are waiting for you to make a mistake. They’regoing to bait you on Twitter to say something inappropriate that you can nevertake back.’
“It takes an entire career to build a reputation, and one tweet to lose it.As long as he understands that, it’s fine.”
The site is (at)LoMoMarlins, and Morrison estimates the age of his audienceat 15 and up. He says he’ll tweet with asterisks on occasion but otherwise seesno need for self-censorship because kids are going to come across the languagehe uses somewhere else anyway.
“If you don’t want to follow me, don’t follow me,” he says with a shrug.
Not all of his humor is of the clubhouse variety. Many LoMo tweets can befun for the whole family.
“Bought a satellite dish,” one recent posting reported. “Guy told me Idget a TON of HD channels. Last time I buy anything in Publix parking lot.”
But Morrison also tweets about makin’ whoopee, although he has yet to usethat specific phrase. Other topics include body parts, the Miami Heat andhumidity, odorous cabbies, the Philadelphia Phillies and the injury thatsidelined Morrison in April.
“Breaking news: sprained ligament in my foot out 2 to 4 weeks,” hetweeted. “Told u fantasy people not to pick me up.”
Morrison cites no single source for his sense of humor. He says he enjoysChappelle and funny movies and hanging out with people who like to laugh.
Word of his wit is gradually getting around the majors. His Twitterfollowers include Drew Storen(notes) of the Nationals, C.J. Wilson(notes) of Rangers, BrandonMcCarthy(notes) of the Athletics and Peter Moylan(notes) of the Braves, as well as PaulBissonnette of the NHL Phoenix Coyotes.
“Very entertaining,” Storen says. “LoMo does a great job at being prettyreal. A lot of guys are pretty filtered.”
“He likes to re-tweet his followers with funny ones—make it a little bitlike Will Ferrell,” Wilson says.
Morrison says he’s just being himself: a native of Kansas City, Mo., whogrew up a Coast Guard brat, lost his father to lung cancer and is blessed withthe ability to hit a major league curve.
“I’m a 23-year-old guy who has been through some stuff that most peoplehaven’t been through,” he says. “Not many people in my position have traveledand done a lot of the stuff I’ve done, even in my childhood with my dad being inthe military. I went to three different high schools. That’s the reason I am whoI am today.”
Whether he’s sitting at his locker, watching TV at home or eating at arestaurant, LoMo’s liable to be tapping out a message on his iPhone. When askedif he would ever tweet during a game, Morrison hesitates before saying no.
“I think he has a slight addiction,” teammate John Buck(notes) says.
Morrison engages in exchanges with fellow tweeps, unlike celebrity athleteswho limit their tweeting to status reports on dinner plans and such. LoMo sayshe understands why famous Twitterers might dislike interacting with thenot-famous, but he sees it as a chance to break down barriers and show he’s aregular guy.
Morrison also freely concedes he’s trying to promote himself. He began usingTwitter before the 2010 season at the suggestion of his agent, Fred Wray, whosaw it as a way to expand the LoMo brand.
“Twitter fit Logan,” Wray says. “It’s an online conversation, and Loganlikes to talk. He has the gift of gab.”
Soon after Morrison reached the majors last July, his followers outnumberedattendance at the typical Marlins home game.
“The main goal was to get my name out there and make me more money andbring more money to the causes I support, like the American Lung Association,”Morrison says. “In this market you’ve got to do things you wouldn’t ordinarilydo to get followers, and it’s working.”
His late father’s battle with lung cancer ended in December, and Morrisontraded stories about the illness with others on Twitter. After he recovered fromhis foot injury, his auctioned cast sold for $1,500, with the money going to thelung association.

If not for Morrison’s injury, he might be contender himself. After hitting.283 in 62 games as a rookie last year, this season he’s a big part of theMarlins’ surprising success, batting .322 with six home runs through Monday.
When it comes to Twitter popularity, Morrison can’t rival Nick Swisher(notes) (1.3million followers), Jose Canseco (394,000) or even Ozzie Guillen (143,000). Buthe figures the best way to gain ground on them is with base hits.
“Obviously the better I do, the more followers I’m going to get,” he says.“I’m sure it will be way up if I make an All-Star Game; it doesn’t matter howoriginal or funny I am on there.”
On that point, Morrison and the Marlins brass agree.
“I’ve told Logan,” Samson says, “no one will care about his tweets ifthey’re coming from New Orleans.”
That’s where the Marlins’ Triple-A team plays.
