Strasburg to debut June 8 vs. Pirates

HOUSTON (AP)—The Washington Nationals say prized prospect Stephen Strasburg(notes) isscheduled to make his major league debut against Pittsburgh on June 8.
The 21-year-old right-hander is scheduled to start for Triple-A Syracuse atBuffalo on Thursday.
Strasburg, the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft, is 3-1 with a 1.27 ERA infive Triple-A starts. In 10 minor league starts, including five at Double-AHarrisburg, he’s 6-2 with a 1.43 ERA.
The former San Diego State star allowed three runs and six hits in five-plusinnings against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday night.
Strasburg signed a record $15.1 million, four-year contract with theNationals after he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in last year’sdraft.

Clint Barmes(notes) hit a two-run single in the second inning that held up forJimenez (10-1), who struck out nine, lowered his big league-best ERA to 0.78 andextended his career-best scoreless innings streak to 26. He pitched his fourthcareer complete game, second career shutout and second this year.
Lincecum (5-2), making his 100th start and matched up with Jimenez for thefourth time, walked five for the fourth straight start and the Giants had theirfour-game winning streak snapped.
Cubs bring up Cashner, put Grabow on DL

PITTSBURGH (AP)—The Chicago Cubs have brought up top pitching prospect AndrewCashner(notes) from Triple-A Iowa and placed struggling left-handed reliever JohnGrabow(notes) on the disabled list with left knee inflammation.
The Cubs announced the moves Monday before their game at Pittsburgh.
The right-handed Cashner was a starter in the Cubs’ farm system until movingto the bullpen last week. The 23-year-old was 3-0 at Iowa with a 0.86 ERA infive games, including three starts.
Cashner, the Cubs’ first-round pick in 2008, started the season by going 3-1with a 2.75 ERA in six starts at Double-A Tennessee.
Grabow is expected to rest for several days before beginning to work himselfback into game shape. He is 0-3 with a 9.45 ERA, giving up a pair of home runsin the ninth inning of a 9-1 loss to St. Louis on Sunday.

HOUSTON (AP)—Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt(notes) was ejected in the third inning ofMonday’s game against Washington for arguing with home plate umpire Bill Hohn.
With Houston trailing 4-1, Oswalt missed the strike zone with a 2-2 pitch toJosh Willingham(notes). He looked toward the first base line and yelled something,though it was unclear if Oswalt was snapping at Hohn or chastising himself.
Hohn took off his mask and yelled back at Oswalt. The pitcher responded, “Iain’t talking to you!” Hohn then ejected Oswalt. Catcher Humberto Quintero(notes)confronted the umpire and Houston manager Brad Mills(notes) came out to join theconversation.
Oswalt has acknowledged his frustration with the Astros’ dismal start andabout two weeks ago, his agent asked the team to trade him.

Marlins selling tickets to perfect game

MIAMI (AP)—Here’s a chance to buy tickets to a guaranteed perfect game—the one Roy Halladay(notes) already threw.
The Florida Marlins will begin selling on Tuesday unused tickets to the gamein which the Philadelphia Phillies ace pitched the 20th perfect game in majorleague history, a 1-0 victory over the Marlins on Saturday.
All tickets will be regularly priced and on sale both online and through theMarlins’ box office.
Paid attendance that night was about 25,000, a relatively large crowd for aMarlins’ home game. By comparison, Florida drew a paid crowd of 10,115—itssmallest of the season—for Monday’s game against Milwaukee.

Phillies activate closer Lidge from DL

ATLANTA (AP)—The Philadelphia Phillies have activated right-handed closer BradLidge(notes) from the disabled list after he missed 18 games because of elbowstiffness.
Lidge had surgery on the elbow in January and didn’t appear in a game untilApril 30. But his elbow felt stiff and was told to rest it after an MRI earlythis month revealed no structural damage.
He converted his one save opportunity this season and has a 2.70 ERA in 31-3 innings over four games.
Manager Charlie Manuel said on Monday before the Phillies game againstAtlanta that Jose Contreras(notes) could work as the primary setup man. Contreras hasthree saves in three chances.
Philadelphia designated Nelson Figueroa(notes) for assignment to make room forLidge on the 25-man roster.

Manager John Russell announced the move before Monday’s game against theCubs and said that the recently recalled Neil Walker(notes) would take over at second.Walker was the Pirates’ first-round draft pick as a catcher in 2004.
The Pirates dealt reliever Jesse Chavez(notes) to Tampa Bay for Iwamura during theoffseason, picking up his $4.85 million contract even though he missed most oflast season following left knee surgery. Iwamura has shown little range in thefield and his .173 batting average is the third lowest in the majors for aneveryday player.
